SOPHIES STORY
It was a rainy day when I saw this puppy on our base. I went up to her and the first thing she did was roll on her back. It looked like she was smiling at me and I fell in love with her. I noticed she was underweight and when I was petting her, I noticed she had ticks all over. There was nothing I could do and had to leave her until I could come up with a plan to keep her safe. It was saddening because I couldn't find her for a couple of days. I put the word out for everyone to look for her. Suddenly we found her and tried to make a pen for her but Ms Houdini go out everytime. Everytime Mari and I went walking, I always kept a watchful eye for her but no luck until one day she was at our doorstep. How I don' t know, but Sophie found us.

Mari and I proceeded to pick off all the ticks, which must have been thirty of them. After taking off the ticks, we figured she would be safe behind the fence with Tina the ram and another dog. Mari is her second Mom who really wants Sophie to be at her home in El Paso. Mari's dog died of old age before she came here. Also I have three dogs at home. We got Sophie her distemper and rabies shot so she could stay on base.

Now Sophie is healthy and happy living with Tina the Ram and can stay here on base as long as we areactively trying to get her home. In any war zone sadness occurs, but she is our "Saving Grace"when we need refuge and to get away from things that bother us. She loves us and we love her with all our heart and thats why we want to get her into a happy forever home. If we had to leave her here she would die and our hearts would be broken. Sophie has helped us through some really rough times and we want to pay her back by giving her love and a home.

It will cost us approximately $4,000 to get her to a new home in El Paso, TX. This is a long journey for her and hopefully we will have someone loving to pick her up in NY when she arrives. It is suggested that she rests and settles down for a couple of days because she will be scared, tired, and hungry. Her next journey after she rests is El Paso where she will have her forever home. Who could deny this beautiful puppy a happy home.
